It was an early, HOT morning when we headed out.
We walked the mile or more to the start (feels like 10 at the end) and waited out our starts.
Kellie was up for the 5k first and did amazing and felt strong with some cute photo opportunities too. (cant wait to see official race pics)
It was my time and as we all herded to the corrals I ended up on wrong side and ended up in the B corral. I figured what the heck and went with it. Little did I know this would hurt me later! (the B Corral got “lost” and the times were wrong. I wondered why my 5k was off so much and after asking around they confirmed the error and how it was fixed before race finished)
The first mile was super fast and I knew I needed to run in and had to keep conservative to keep as much for the half tomorrow as I could. It wasnt long I realized I had to pull back quick. I fought some major demons in my head at mile 2! I just kept on and felt this hand on my shoulder and heard “You are doing great, Keep it up!” It wasnt until I said thanks and saw him dashing off that I realized it was JEFF GALLOWAY! I had my camera in my hand so snapped a pic! I watched him. He was so strong. 30 seconds on 15 seconds off (or so, I counted to myself) He was out of my sight in no time!
I continued through the course thinking many things. How disappointing most of the actual course was. It was a lot of street and back lots that even took us through the stinky smoking sections of Disney. The water stations were really spread out and there was one at mile 6? Hello? Why couldnt we have had that at mile 3? It was super hot and when I did find water I poured one on my head and drank 3 others. How I really think I am done with Disney Races after the Glass Slipper Challenge in February. How tomorrow is going to hurt if I felt like this on what was supposed to be an “easy” 10k.
Then I came into the actual parks and that went away. I decided to let it all go and I would just enjoy the time, not give up, and be in the moment. I would not finish with any regrets. I would be strong. I would stay on track and I would finish.
I kept pretty steady and as I hit mile 6 I looked at watch and saw I might be able to PR and hit my goal. It would be a modest PR because I paced well and was proud to hit my target so I kicked it up and did not walk the last segment (I ran 2 and walked 1 the entire time) to finish at 1:21:11. 7 seconds short of a PR and 11 off of goal but I would say that is JUST FINE. NO REGRETS!
We hung out and waited for Liam and Marc to come for Liam’s race and boy was that another cluster but a cute cluster. Liam wasnt overly thrilled but once he got going he did great and got to high five Minnie at the end!
Kellie and I went back to the expo for a couple things, had lunch, and immediately went to hotel to shower and nap before dinner.
We were being treated by my Mother In Law’s best friend and it was sweet to break away from the disney madness for a little while. I opted for the flat bread and mushrooms. Had only half of each and feeling as ready as I am going to be for tomorrow.
Now snuggle time with this cute boy and his new balloon while Marc and Kellie are back at the park playing and hopefully he will crash soon so I can with him!
Oh ya .. and Kellie got to meet the infamous Joey Fatone from N Sync. He actually finished right behind me so it was great timing for her as he was one of her first ever crushes. He was very polite and sweet!
